5.4 EARTHQUAKE!!

A computer monitor at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech) in Pasadena, Calif., shows the seismic activity of an earthquake that occurred Tuesday, July 29, 2008, in Southern California causing buildings to sway and triggering some precautionary evacuations. The jolt was felt from Los Angeles to San Diego, and slightly in Las Vegas.(AP Photo/Nick Ut)

-- and an excerpt from an article :

"The jolt caused a fire but no injuries at a Southern California Edison electrical substation in La Habra, about 12 miles southwest of the epicenter, spokesman Paul Klein said. Damage there and to other equipment led to some power outages in Chino Hills, Chino, Diamond Bar and Pomona, he said. "

yep.
like what i've put.
I FELT MY FIRST EARTHQUAKE EXPERIENCE EVER.

where was i at the time it hit?
TINGKAT EMPAT.

lemme tell how it was from my point of view.

i think it was around 11.30-11.40 am, sebelum start lab, and some of my classmates and the instructor were in the lab (fourth floor) trying to finish our pre-labs. and then tetiba, we heard some loud bumping/thumping/thudding sounds, i thought it came from the floor above, but it wasn't quite right sebab then it could be heard all around us. at the same time, i felt the floor shaking/swaying, and as i look up, everyone else was heading towards the door, and we grouped there for some time while the shaking fades, probably waiting for the aftershock.

it was very surreal.

while grouping there, rasa takut gle, and i felt like holding onto someone's hand to calm down, and guess what, i did. a classmate gave his hand (yes, his, i was the only girl in the room) and i held onto it until our instructor led us downstairs.

damn i didn't bring my handphone (and wallet, and housekeys) with me. so no pics here, sorry.

people were getting out of the building, and the building next to us, and students just started to discuss about the earthquake. a classmate said he was somewhere at the CLA building (administrations and stuff), and when the earthquake happened bits of the ceiling (cement or concrete or something like that) fell down.

our instructor said it was awesome. to some extent, it was pretty awesome, you know, sebab mana penah rasa earthquake sebelum ni, plus we were at a much higher place compared to most of the students, so that's something. on the other hand, it was scary, and to be honest, i can still feel my legs shaking now.

kalau ada sesape tengah amek exam during the earthquake, they must be happy bout it. no classes were cancelled, as everyone surely would've hoped. well, ours wasn't, at least.

then people were just hanging out at the grounds below, waiting for confirmation that the building is safe to go into again. tapi last-last kitorang guna judgment sendiri je, sebab tengok ramai yang dah naik balik lepas 20-30 minit. our instructor tried the elevators, but they weren't working, so up we go to the fourth floor on stairs. taknah tengok tangga se-crowded cam ari ni, haha.

then kelas sambung cam biasa.

then masa balik, dalam bas, jumpa Adrine ngan Mel, and diorang kata kat LAX, at one of the terminals, a part of the ceiling fell down and water poured in. it's in the CNN website, for anyone interested.

wah, selama ni taknah amek tau pasal news or anything, then tetiba ari ni pegi Yahoo! News ngan CNN nyer website.

syukur takat ni takde injuries or anything.

it's weird how things like these change you.
like, tetiba je kita view something differently, and we tend to see things that we didn't notice or even cared about before. like God is shedding light on things for us to see clearer.

...if i was at home alone during the earthquake, i would've panicked like HELL.

oh, kepada member-member yang balik Malaysia, rugi weh tak rasa earthquake ni!! it was scary, but it's an awesome experience. hahahaaa.

+++

baru lepas on phone with mama tadi, which was unfortunately cut-off for some reason i don't know (the earthquake?), to tell about it and stuff.

mama ingatkan tepon sebab pasal papa or something.
i was like : "eh? kenapa?"
then she said : "papa tak jadi datang, postpone to next year kot."

takleh cakap apa.
kalau dah takde rezeki kan.

so this weekend, sesape yang rasa free, sila laa datang tengok saya. saya free weekend ni. tengok wayang jom? The Dark Knight or something.
(ayat meminta simpati.)

so...yeah.
tu je for now.

sambung homework (still).

/nadia yang baru first time rasa earthquake and proud of it.
